Hardline Russian politicians and commentators are calling on Moscow to provide military support to Iran, arguing that failing to do so could leave Russia vulnerable to future US action. Their statements come as the war in Ukraine continues and Middle East tensions escalate.

Calls for Military Support to Iran

Several pro-Kremlin figures have urged direct assistance to Iran following reported US and Israeli strikes.

Alexei Zhuravlev, deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s defence committee, said Russia should not limit itself to diplomatic protests but instead provide support “by all possible means, including military support.”

He also proposed forming a military coalition of states opposed to the West, warning that countries risk being targeted individually if they fail to unite.

Escalating Anti-Western Rhetoric

Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the defence committee, questioned the West’s moral authority to criticise Russia’s military actions in Ukraine.

He argued that Moscow must not show weakness and warned that Russia itself could be “next” if it fails to stand firm.

Meanwhile, Kremlin-aligned media personality Vladimir Solovyov claimed that international diplomacy has been destroyed and suggested that regional conflicts could merge into a broader global war.

Official Kremlin Tone

Russian parliamentary speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said the world has entered a phase of “conflicts, turbulence and tension,” adding that nuclear weapons remain the principal deterrent against large-scale war.

Although these remarks reflect hardline positions, there has been no official confirmation that Russia will provide direct military assistance to Tehran.

War in Ukraine Continues

The rhetoric comes as Russia remains engaged in its military campaign in Ukraine.

In a separate development, the Shesharis oil loading terminal at the port of Novorossiysk was struck in what Russian officials described as a Ukrainian drone attack. Authorities reported:
